How To Apply Peppermint Oil

Peppermint essential oil has various uses and the application depends on the usages. Most commonly Peppermint oil is used for hair re-growth & sinus care.

Since essential oils are highly concentrated, it's best to dilute them with a carrier oil for best results. Carrier oil mix well with essential oils and helps take them within the skin.


What is the main use of Peppermint oil?

It depends on you! Peppermint oil has been used for thousands of years for its various benefits like its ability to improve digestion, alleviate respiratory problems, headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms. It boosts energy levels, helps with joint and muscle pain, clears acne, soothes itching, relieves headache and improves digestion. How and where you use this oil is up to you!

How do I use Peppermint oil for skin and hair?

Since essential oils are highly concentrated, first dilute peppermint oil with a carrier oil like Jojoba oil or Coconut oil (around 3-4 drops of essential oil per tablespoon of carrier oil). For acne treatment, apply diluted oil on affected area and repeat daily for best results. You can also mix it with your cream and lotion for use on face and skin. For hair, mix the essential oil with your shampoo and conditioner and wash as usual. You can also massage the diluted oil into your scalp before shampooing.

Does Peppermint oil cause hair regrowth?

Peppermint oil is a very effective remedy for treating hair loss, male pattern baldness and thinning hair. Hair loss occurs because of lack of blood flow to hair follicles. Peppermint contains a compound called Menthol which is a vasodilator, and vasodilators improve blood flow, thus promoting hair growth. Minoxidil is a popular FDA approved drug which is commonly used in hair loss treatments. Minoxidil, being a chemical compound, has many side effects like facial hair growth in women, irritation, flaking and redness on skin. Peppermint oil is 100% natural and is free from any side effects.

Are there any side effects of using Peppermint oil?

Do a patch test before using peppermint oil. Dilute this oil with a carrier oil like Jojoba oil or Coconut oil and apply to the inside of your forearm. If you do not experience any allergic reaction after 24 hours, then peppermint oil is safe for you. Just remember- never apply it directly on skin or hair without dilution. This oil is not recommended for pregnant women, children and diabetics.
