Hair extensions are an amazing method to add length and density to short, medium, or long hair. But yes, when taking care of them, whether they are sewn-in or clip-in, you have to be very delicate with them. Set a proper hair care routine to take care of hair extensions. 

How to take care of hair extensions? 

1. Washing Technique 

First things first, let’s talk about the hair washing routine. Even though you are wearing extensions, it doesn’t mean you overlook them. Taking good care of your hair is essential with or without extensions. It is recommended to wash your hair at least once a week. 

Never ever sleep with wet extensions. Our hair is fragile when it is wet, which means sleeping can have an impact on both your natural hair and extensions. 

2. Choose products wisely

Choose products- shampoos and conditioners that are free from sulfates and parabens. They take away all the natural oil and moisture, making extensions dry. Also, go for the ingredients that help your natural hair to grow. You can check for ingredients like almond oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and more. 

The products should be hydrating and gentle. Since extensions cut most of the oil flow to your roots. Pay close attention to what it is in your hair products. 

3. Daily comb your hair extensions

Tangles are bad for your extensions. Make sure to separate them daily. But be careful with this process. Use a small comb or brush with soft bristles so that it doesn’t pull out strands. 

4. Avoid heat products 

An easy way to manage frizzy and shabby locks is using styling machines. But frequent heating products can damage the strands, even the extensions. And once they are harmed, you are left with no option but to replace them. 

Whenever you go for heating and styling, apply a heat protectant to shut out heat damage. You should also keep the temperature as low as possible. 

5. Store them properly

If you have clip-in hair extensions, it is important to store them rightly for long-lasting usage. It will also prevent them from becoming entangled. 

Here are some tips to store your clip-in extensions properly: 

1. While storing make sure all the clips are closed shut. 

2. Brush them to remove tangles.

3. You can even make a ponytail so that the hair strands do not get entwined with one another.

4. Store them in a cool and dry place, maybe inside a closet.
